Calderón and Obama Talk

Democratic Senator Barack Obama, president-elect of the United States, acknowledged Mexico's fight against narcotráfico and expressed his condolences over the death of the Secretary of the Government in a telephone conversation yesterday with president Felipe Calderón. The Office of the Mexican President said through a communication that Calderón called Obama "to congratulate him in the name of the Mexican people for his historic election as president of the United States of America" and to invite him to visit Mexico. During the conversation, Obama emphasized that "he was aware of the difficulty of the battle and offered the strong support of his government." George W. bush's successor also expressed his "most sincere condolences" for the death of Juan Camilo Mouriño Terrazo, Secretary of the Government, and other high officials in the crash of the government plane on Tuesday. Calderón emphasized that the electoral process of the United States "has inspired a new generation to take active part in public affairs" and he invited Obama to work together to confront global problems and to strengthen the bilateral relationship."
