I got the following from the site, www.bruderhof.com. This is the site of some Christian communities (almost communes), part of a movement started in Germany sometime, if I remember correctly, in the early 20th century. From them I get a "daily dig" which you can also get by connecting to http://dailydig.bruderhof.org. Their theology is pretty much peace and justice. The current leader is pretty much a literalist about the Bible but nonetheless, there's a lot a non-believing soul can enjoy.
The quotes:
What is sour in the house a bracing walk in the woods makes sweet. -- Henry David Thorough
I never saw a discontented tree. They grip the ground as though they liked it; and, though fast rooted, they travel about as far as we do. They go wandering forth in all directions with every wind, going and coming like ourselves, traveling with us around the sun two million miles a day, and through space--heaven knows how fast and far! --John Muir
I think that I shall never see
A billboard lovelyl as a tree.
Indeed, unless the billboards fall,
I'll never see a tree at all.
--Ogden Nash
If a man walks in the woods for love of them half of each day, he is in danger of being regarded as a loafer. Bug if he spends hsi days as a specualtor, shearing off those woods and making the earth bald before her time, he is deemed an industrious and enterprising citizen. -- Henry David Thoreau
A tree never hits an automobile except in self defense. -- Woody Allen
Treees are poems that earth writes upon the sky. We fell them and turn them into newspapers that we may record our emptiness. -- Kahlil Gibran
Trees sing and dance, and put on bright clothes trying to be noticed and loved. They do everything we do to git attention. -- Alice Walker
God has cared for these trees, saved them from drought, disease, avalanches and a thousand tempests and floods. But he cannot save them from the fools who would cut them down for dance hall floors. --John Muir (after seeing Calilfornia's great sequoia groves)
Suburbs are places where developers bulldoze out all the trees, and then name the streets after them. -- William Vaughn
He who plants a tree plants hope. -- A Welsh proverb
