Taking the dogs for a walk these days is a slip-sliding affair. When it's not raining, water drips from leaves and roofs and and drain pipes and runs down the ditches and potholes zig-zagging across roads. Yesterday we decided instead of slogging we would take the dogs for a drive, and lo and behold, the sun came casting everything in primary color cheerfulness.
Here are some pictures of our short, happy trip to Llano Grande and back.
We meant to go through Teocele to Baxtla, but just after we crossed a narrow bridge in a small valley, people came out and told us the road going further was closed because of a mud slide, and indeed a thin ribbon crossed the road with "peligro peligro peligro" written all along it.
Someone must once have dreamed of a resort here, for there was a large, crumbling and almost empty swimming pool sitting next to a ramshackle house on stilts. Having a resort seems to be a common dream.
A waterfalls tumbled off to our right.
Back in Teocelo, we saw this cat and dog
And this dog on a wall.
We caught this view of the main church.
We decided to drive out to Monte Blanco. On the road coming towards us were tons and tons of buses and pickups filled with happy people. The buses said, Especial and Llano Grande. We thought they must have had some great big happening at Llano Grande. We thought we'd head there to see if anything was still going on.
On the way we saw one end of a rainbow:
Here is a view from the cliff I was standing to take the picture of the rainbow. I am looking at other cliffs across the valley This is just off the road from Monte Blanco to Llano Grande. (The road goes from Teocelo through Monte Blanco to Llano Grande).

The dogs were very interested in their surroundings.
When we got to the main square of Llano Grande, it was empty! Boy, they sure cleaned up quickly after all those people. Then we saw a bus coming up a hill. Maybe the party was down there. We were worried about it getting dark and rainy again, though, so we decided to head back.
On the way back, we took a side road in Monte Blanco and saw this strange house and gate. There was also a below-street level line of tiny motel-like rooms, all in ruins, and a little further, another ruined swimming pool. Yet more failed dreams, I suppose.
And as we drove back into Teocelo, lo and behold, there were all the buses! The party was in Teocelo.
There were two rallies going on, one for the PRI, which you see above, and one for something called the Partido Nacional which I have not heard of before. The PRI rally had a wonderful band and lots of people in red shirts. The Partido Nacional rally was inside a large gym and also had a band, but the acoustics were terrible.
Here is the PRI band. It isn't a very good picture, but they deserve to be here.
And then it was time to go home.
