Our friend Norma married her soul mate, Evan, yesterday in a beautiful ceremony at The Church of Our Lady of Fatima in the town of Coatepec. Norma met Evan in the Grand Canyon on a rafting trip which had been arranged by a close friend. Norma was the first person to sign up, Evan the last. Evan almost drowned during the trip and, as he says, managed to barely make it back up for air before entering the gates of Hell. When he did, after only knowing Norma a short time, he decided he nonetheless had to cement the relationship.
I can tell you, they seem a perfect match and they both make each other so happy it lights up everyone around them. I don't know Evan well, but I do know that Norma is an extraordinary person whom everyone looks forward to being around.
Norma and Evan aren't exactly spring chickens, both being in their forties. Maybe that's a good thing. It sure seemed like it yesterday. I haven't been to such a joyful wedding in a very long time. Everyone was crying and smiling the whole way through the ceremony.
The reception was held up a ways into the hills in a tiny resort which did practically nothing to intrude on its beautiful surroundings.
There is something about living here in our area ... I find myself experiencing these little surges of happiness when everything is just right: the people, the surroundings, the very air.
