The statement by the Latin American Commission on Drugs and Democracy, Drugs and Democracy, towards a Paradigm Shift, totally demolishes arguments for the war on drugs and for prohibition of drugs as we know them. This is a link to the actual report. This is a general link to the commission.
The Commission members are incredibly impressive, coming from the
highest ranks of politics, scholarship and law. Three former Latin
American presidents are co-presidents of the commission, including
respected presidents of Mexico and Colombia. Here is a link to more biographical information on them, and below, a list of their names. A few are annotated here, but then I found the link to better information in the organization website.
César Gaviria // Colombia // co-president, former president of Colombia
Ernesto Zedillo // Mexico // co-president, former president of Mexico
Fernando Henrique Cardoso // Brazil // co-president, former president of Brazil
Ana María Romero de Campero // Bolivia, Nobel Peace Prize winner
Antanas Mockus // Colombia, former mayor of Bogotá, Colombia, scholar and politician

They represent a wide range of political points of view so Americans can not accuse them of being "soft on drugs."
