Rudolfo Anaya writes wonderful novels. From New Mexico, he fills is pages with the color of the New Mexican landscape and the people (and mysterious beings) in it. If you are looking for something to get you going reading Spanish, while Anaya writes in English, for sure Bless Me Ultima is available translated into Spanish. I haven't thought of Anaya for a number of years. One melancholy memory I have is getting all excited to go to a book signing he was doing in San Antonio, TX in a Barnes and Noble in a mall facing I410 -- the Loop -- on the north side, a soulless place if ever there was one. Hardly anyone turned up! I couldn't believe it. Anyway, here is a snippet that appeared on the Big Read Blog sponsored by of all things the US government. Check it out. Un hombre muy amable.
