Andres Manuel López Obrador, the so-called defeated candidate for president here in Mexico and his followers are mounting significant challenges to the election. Among the most prominent is that Monex, a member of the Banamex Financial Group, was involved in buying gift cards at the supermarket chain, Soriana, in order to buy votes for the PRI. This front page news in La Jornada got a tiny mention in today's NY Times in what the Times itself calls a "Brief" entitled Mexico: Runner Up Mounts a Challenge.
