Depression is, to put it mildly and tritely, complex. I have learned that "fighting" it doesn't really work. I remember reading a Buddhist manual on treating depression years ago which suggested, more or less, "going" with it. In this article, you can see some of that. It makes sense if you aren't drowning. I have learned a lot from watching myself be depressed. The worst thing about serious depression I think is how self-centered it makes me, how self-absorbed. Yet somehow, watching, learning about other people, other lives, is connected with depression in a good way.
